Senior Legal Counsel

Hybrid

We are partnering with a high-growth international fintech business to hire a Senior Legal Counsel / Associate General Counsel. This is a key hire within a lean legal team, offering the opportunity to take on broad responsibility and play a strategic role in shaping the legal function during a critical growth phase.

The company operates at the intersection of digital assets and financial infrastructure, building solutions that enable more efficient global money movement and financial connectivity for businesses.

This role is ideal for a lawyer with 5–8 years’ PQE who is looking to move beyond execution into a more strategic, ownership-driven position. You will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, advising on a wide range of legal matters across multiple jurisdictions.

You’ll be joining at a stage where the business is scaling rapidly—meaning your work will directly influence how the legal function is built and evolves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Legal Support:
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including customer contracts, partnerships, and vendor arrangements, aligning legal risk with commercial objectives.
  • Global Legal Coordination:
Support legal coverage across multiple jurisdictions, working with external counsel where required and ensuring alignment with applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Legal Operations & Innovation:
Improve internal legal processes, including implementing technology and AI-driven tools to enhance efficiency and turnaround times.
  • Business Partnering:
Work closely with product, commercial, and finance teams to provide clear, practical legal advice on new initiatives, product development, and market expansion.
  • Legal Function Development:
Contribute to building scalable legal infrastructure, processes, and best practices to support ongoing international growth.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer in Hong Kong, Singapore, or another common law jurisdiction
  • 5–8 years’ PQE, with experience either:
    • In-house at a fintech, payments, or digital assets company, or
    • In private practice advising clients in these sectors
  • Experience working in international environments and fast-paced / early-stage teams
  • Strong exposure to commercial, product, and regulatory legal work
  • Additional experience in fundraising or M&A is advantageous but not essential

Key Attributes (Non-Negotiable)

  • Comfort with ambiguity: Able to bring structure and clarity in a fast-evolving environment without relying on established playbooks
  • Hands-on approach: Willing to draft, negotiate, and execute independently
  • Interest in AI and legal tech: Open and proactive in leveraging automation and new tools to improve legal workflows
  • Collaborative mindset: Strong communicator who can translate legal complexity into actionable business advice

Nice to Have

  • Experience in digital assets, payments, card issuing, or related regulatory frameworks
