Increased Kidnapping Threats Trigger Security Boost for Crypto Executives

Enhanced Security Measures for Crypto Executives Amid Rising Kidnapping Threats

In the wake of a series of alarming kidnapping incidents targeting cryptocurrency professionals, there has been a notable surge in the demand for personal security services. Crypto executives, particularly in France, are increasingly seeking the expertise of bodyguard security firms to safeguard their personal safety and that of their families.

Rising Threats in the Crypto Community

The cryptocurrency sector, known for its lucrative potential, has unfortunately also attracted the attention of criminal elements. Recent incidents in France have underscored the vulnerability of crypto investors and executives to violent crimes, including kidnappings. In response, security firms such as Amsterdam-based Infinite Risks International are reporting a significant uptick in inquiries and contracts for personal security services.

French law enforcement has taken these threats seriously, implementing enhanced security measures for individuals in the crypto space. These measures include detailed security briefings and prioritized emergency response services for crypto entrepreneurs. Additionally, authorities are advising individuals in the industry to maintain a low profile, recommending against flaunting wealth or wearing crypto-branded apparel that could make them targets.

Notable Incidents Highlighting the Security Risks

The severity of the threat was starkly illustrated by the kidnapping of David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, a prominent hardware wallet company. In January 2025, Balland was abducted and held for ransom for several days before being rescued by French police. This incident was part of a disturbing trend, including the May 2024 case where the father of a crypto entrepreneur was kidnapped and subjected to brutal treatment by his captors.

Another chilling attempt occurred on May 13, when Pierre Noizat, co-founder and CEO of French crypto exchange Paymium, saw his family assaulted in broad daylight. Masked assailants attacked and tried to abduct Noizat’s daughter and grandson. The quick reactions of his daughter and a passerby thwarted the kidnapping, highlighting the brazen nature of such crimes.

Industry Response and Government Action

The crypto community’s response has been swift, with many seeking to bolster their personal security through professional bodyguard services. The French government, led by Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, has also stepped in, organizing meetings with crypto executives to discuss the situation and explore further protective measures.

This series of high-profile incidents has sent shockwaves through the crypto world, emphasizing the need for heightened security and vigilance. As the industry continues to grow, ensuring the safety of its leading figures remains a top priority.
