Breaking into blockchain: Skills companies want

dern blockchain professional working on a cutting-edge project.

Ever thought of breaking into blockchain? That was the question I posed to my best mate, Steve, over drinks. Before diving deep into crypto recruitment, I’d never imagined that this ‘web3’ concept would totally shift my career landscape. If you’re like the old me, maybe a tad curious, but a bit uncertain about the whole thing, then pull up a chair, mate. Let’s dive deep!

1. A Solid Grasp of Web3 Concepts

Flashback to 2019: One of my earliest candidates, Lara, was an AI whizz. She’d been nailing it in the AI sector, but blockchain? A total novice. However, she’d been burning the midnight oil, studying up on web3 – the new decentralized internet. I matched her with a startup looking for someone just like her. Why? Because she could bridge the gap between AI and blockchain, two powerful technologies set to shape our world. The lesson? It’s not always about having years of experience, but showing an eagerness to embrace new paradigms like web3.

2. Soft Skills Matter

You know, it’s funny. My inbox is overflowing with emails from techie gurus who know their blockchain stuff. But, let me tell ya, hard skills aren’t everything. My second anecdote involves Tom, who wasn’t exactly the most tech-savvy fellow. Yet, he was an excellent communicator, team player, and had a knack for spotting inefficiencies. He was a gem for crypto recruiters because he could facilitate between hardcore techies and non-tech stakeholders. Companies love people who can demystify blockchain to the masses.

3. Versatility is Gold

Last year, I had a coffee with Sarah. She’d hopped around various roles, from marketing to coding. While some called her a “jack of all trades”, I saw her as a Swiss Army Knife in the world of crypto recruitment. Blockchain startups, especially the new ones, are often lean. They want folks who wear many hats, who can jump into different roles as needed. Sarah was a perfect fit for a startup that needed someone versatile. And guess what? She’s now their COO!

4. Stay Updated or Stay Out

My final yarn for the day is about Alex. Bright lad, but he hadn’t updated his skill set since the early days of Bitcoin. The blockchain world today is fast-paced, with innovations coming out faster than you can say “crypto”. When Alex approached me, I had to be blunt with him. I sent him back to the drawing board, urging him to get up-to-date. Three months later, armed with fresh courses and a revitalized passion, he bagged a role in one of the hottest blockchain companies.

So, what’s the bottom line here? Breaking into blockchain is more than just understanding the tech. It’s about being versatile, having strong soft skills, and constantly updating your knowledge.

Looking to make a splash in the blockchain world? Dive deep, never stop learning, and remember: crypto recruiters aren’t just looking for tech geeks – they’re looking for future industry leaders. And who knows? That could be you.

Cheers to blockchain and beyond! 🚀
